  Elder Law is a particular legal area consists of the laws and rules that deals and concerns specifically for the senior citizens. Legally a person 60 year of age or older than 60 years is a senior citizen by the federal law. Some states follow the same definition and other use the age of 65 years in declaring a person as a senior citizen. This specific law is a relatively new and has become popular in the early 2000’s. The law includes estate planning, long term care insurance, disability planning, retirement, social security benefits, healthcare and Medicare and variety of other issues related to senior citizens. Elder law also includes some aspects of criminal law, such as security against elder abuse; financial mistreatment of elders; nursing mistreatment and neglect; frauds, exploitation and other security concerns. The law is for the protection of the rights of the growing aging population.
